Lunch and Learn…About Life After High School

At the beginning of this year, Shayd Speed took over as Dual Credit Facilitator when former Facilitator Sharon Greer retired. With her, she ushered in a series of events for seniors known as Lunch and Learn.

Lunch and Learn is an opportunity provided by Flour Bluff High School to prepare students for success after high school. Universities and companies are invited into the school and talk to students, mainly seniors, during their lunch period.

“I got to talk to the A&M advisor and she was really helpful in telling me what information was unnecessary for my applications, as well as what I did need. I submitted my application for A&M later that day,” said senior Adair Bates.

Speed has also hosted multiple Lunch and Learns to assist students in filling out their FAFSA form, which is necessary for college applications. However, Lunch and Learn is not just for seniors.

“Most of them are mainly for seniors, but they are also open to juniors. They’re welcome to come,” said Speed.

There have been Lunch and Learns for Texas A&M – College Station, Texas A&M – Kingsville, MIT, Boston College, and the University of Incarnate Word. Sign up for the next lunch and learn when it becomes available!
