Mr. Huwell is a physics teacher–with the exception of his one chemistry class—that he has been teaching for the past seven years. He first got into teaching “as a backup plan to opening a youth sports gym.” As a child, he did not see himself as a teacher growing up but, overall, he is quite happy with his career. “It’s alright.” A perfect, yet very accurate response to that sort of question. Like most–if not all–teachers, he wishes that teaching earned him more money. Mr. Huwell is unsure if he’d advise others to become science teachers. “Hard to say, really,” he said. “If you enjoy science, appreciate science for what it is, and enjoy watching the minds of kids grow. I guess I’m not scared to bend the rules and speak my mind in not so formal terms which I find more effective than speaking in politically correct terms.”
