CPH: The Secret to Flour Bluff’s Success

The Flour Bluff Hornet football team made school history last season, fighting their way to the 5th round of playoffs for the first time ever.

“It gives us a clear goal that we want to achieve,” said senior Dylan Shaw, “we always strive to be better than we were last year so it gives us all the motivation to go out and make school history again.”

The Hornets are known for their strong, high-scoring offense, led by sophomores Jayden Paluseo and Cameron Johnson.

“It means a lot,” said Johnson, “the most important play of the game is the next play. I mess up or make a mistake, I always pick my head up and give 100% the next play.”

The team is not only dangerous on offense, but shows off their skills both on defense and on special teams.

“Our offense needs the defense and special teams to execute and show out to put us in a great position to go score, which they have done a great job of,” said Paluseo.

Players like senior Aiden Tovar lead the defense on and off the field. Tovar is a member of the senior leadership team and is a role model to many of the team’s younger players. Tovar is also a leader in the classroom, working to become a practicing nurse.

“I want to set an example for the underclassmen on how to be the best version of yourself.” said Tovar, “Just doing the little things as not being late to class, turning in your homework and having a positive mindset.”

While special teams may often be overlooked, the Hornets’ special teams unit is a key to the team’s success. Players like senior Kyler Meschi and junior Jayden Johnson make a huge impact on the rest of the special teams unit.

“Special teams is a big emphasis to the team. We rep this unit a lot throughout the week so that we can create big turnovers when needed and keep our defense off the field.” said Jayden Johnson, “It allows our fast and skilled offense to drive down the field and convert turnovers into points.”

The Hornets are the epitome of class, pride and heart, not only on the field, but throughout life.
