The Hornets came out on top 57-33 in the second round against Mission Veterans Memorial at home on Nov. 24.

When the teams faced off last year in the playoffs, the team fell short against Mission Vets with a score of 18-24.

On Nov. 24, Senior Simeon Wells led the charge with 211 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 26 attempts.

“We knew if we could get a quick start early, then we could keep pounding the ball and keep scoring,” Wells said.

The team fell behind 3-17 in the middle of the first quarter, but was able to turn the game around with two straight touchdowns to knot up the game. Vets took back the lead on a field goal, but they wouldn’t be ahead for long. On the next drive, junior Braden Sherron connected with senior Brendan Suckley for a 23-yard touchdown. After that score, the team was able to remain ahead for the rest of the game.

Sherron and the rest of the team were able to maintain a good mentality after being down early.

“We kept our heads up because we knew we were one big play away from getting back in the game,” Sherron said.

The team was able to pull off numerous big plays and ended up winning by a convincing margin.
